EARLY LIFE FACTS: Christopher Columbus was born on October 31, 1451 in Genoa, Italy. His father, Domenico Colombo, was a middle class wool weaver who worked in Genoa and Savona . He also owned a cheese stand that young Christopher worked at. In 1461, Christopher was 10 when he sailed on his first ship. In 1476, ships from France attacked Columbus's ship. He was wounded and thrown into sea. His ship sank, but he swam safely to shore.

WHERE HE EXPLORED: Christopher Columbus took 4 voyages. His first voyage was on August 3, 1492, he set sail with 3 ships, the Santa Maria, the Pinta and the Santa Clara. He landed at the Canary Island. His second voyage was on Sept. 24, 1493 with 17 ships with supplies and about 1600 men on board. He also reached the Canary Islands. He left the Canary Island on October 13, 1493. His third voyage was on May 20, 1498 with 6 ships. He landed south of the Island of Trinidad on the 31 of July. From the 4 of August to the 12 of August he explored the Gulf of Paria. His fourth voyage was 11 May 1502 with 3 ships. He landed on the Carbet islands on June 15 1502.

WHY HE SET SAIL: Christopher set sail because he was trying to reach China and they did not know that America was there. When he reached America he thought he had reached India, so he named the people there, Indians. He also went to spread the catholic religion in Asia. Christopher also found our own continent!

FUN FACTS: 1: he taught him self to navigate and to read. 2: Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand turned him down twice. 3: his given name was Crioiforo Colombo. 4: he made himself govener of the new land. 5: He died at age 54 on 1506 may 20.
